At Sports Injury Centers, our team understands that our chiropractors in Chicago are not only working towards healthier spine health but towards an overall healthy lifestyle for all of our patients. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics celebrates National Nutrition Month every March and encourages people of all ages to get involved and celebrate their health! Here are some tips to start with this month and continue far beyond the end of the month!
De-Stress
Stress can build up and manifest itself in many different ways such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, depression, ulcers, IBS, migraines, or obesity. It is important to take a step back and find de-stressing techniques that are right for you. Don’t overthink it; simple techniques like meditating, listening to enjoyable music, reading a good book or soaking in a hot tub are easy ways to help reduce stress. Breathing techniques are also beneficial in reducing stress.
Skip the Salt
Consuming an excess amount of salt is all-too-easy thanks to sodium amounts that are secretly added to your pre-packaged foods. Plus, it’s standard to add additional salt to the top of meals as well. Too much salt can result in high blood pressure. Before you grab the salt shaker, make sure to taste your food to see if it actually needs more flavor. Try adding lemon juice, lime juice, garlic, red pepper flakes, herbs or a salt-free seasoning blend instead.
Get More Sleep
Adults need at least seven hours of sleep per night. If you consistently don’t get a lot of sleep, you might raise your risk of a heart attack or a stroke. Even aim to go to bed 15 minutes earlier than you typically would, it can help make a big difference!
